Markers are not showing on my maps
Try deactivating and reactivating the plugin. Occasionally the marker images do not copy correctly to your uploads folder. If the markers still do not appear, check that the /wp-content/uploads/wp-geo/markers folder exists. If it doesn’t, create it and copy the marker images from /plugins/wp-geo/img/markers.
How do I escaping the [wp_geo_map] Shortcode?
Although there is functionality to do this currently built in to the plugin, this will be removed in a future release. Instead I recommend the wpNSC plugin which you can use you escape any shortcodes within WordPress.
how do i add multiple points as well as change the tags labels and names. if you were to go to the site, i i had to make three pages for three places or points , in the direction section. i love this plugin and i want to fully use it, thanks
Hi Gary. At the moment the plugin is geared around being able to set one location per post. Multiple markers have been requested by a few other people but it probably won’t make it into the plugin for a while because there are a few other more popular features to come first. I think I have seen a few other plugins on the WordPress Plugin Repository that may be able to create maps with multiple markers. Try searching for “geo” in there…
What code would one use to set this up in a custom field? Or set up some sort of “if map exists, then display map” outside the post?
WP Geo stores the longitude and latitude values in 2 custom fields:
_wp_geo_longitude
_wp_geo_latitude
Details on how to access custom field values can be found on the WordPress Codex.
I just installed this plugin using the wordpress installer. I did need to manually copy the images as you mentioned in your instructions… When I go to create or edit a post I get an error saying that “The google maps api server rejected your request. this could be because the API was registered for a different web site. You can generate a new key for this website at %1$s.”
I have logged into google and regenerated my api code, but still get the same error. I am a newbie at this and would appreciate any guidance on how to resolve this.
Thanks,
Dean
Have you tried deactivating all your other plugins to check it isn’t some sort of Javascript conflict? Also I just did a quick Google search and found this – is that relevant?
Hi Ben,
how can I creat a map with all my geo-post? You have a short code or something else??
Thanky,
Jens
Hello,
I can’t see the markers on my pages (can see it in the administration). Allready deactivated and activated the plugin but the marker does not show. I’ve also checked if the images are in the folder (wp-content/uploads/wp-geo/markers) and they are all there.
I’m using WordPress 2.7 with WP Geo 3.0.8.
Thanks,
Chris
@Chris – What theme are you using? Is there a live site I can look at?
Just saw that a JavaScript error occurs: “Tooltip is undefined”
When I look to the sourcecode, the only “tooltip” belongs to wp-geo at line
I’ve checked if the tooltip.js exists in the folder and it was there. BUT: the filename was Tooltip.js. Changed this to tooltip.js and everything worked fine
The reason for the file changing to lowercase was that sometime FTP application are set to rename files with lowercase when upload which then breaks things (as you will have noticed).
Did you upgrade to the latest version of the plugin via WordPress automatic plugin upgrade functionality, or did you update it manual via FTP?
I’ve updated manually by FTP.
Strange, I was just wondering why “tooltip.js” was not being found if you upload the files manually?
Hi!, (and sorry 4 my english). I have a website wordpress powered + WP Geo Instaled. Since a few days my WP Geo Maps looks bad, with all grey but (only works the buttons, zoom…).

Curiosly…. only works “Satelite” or “Hybrid” but no the normal maps !!!!
Whats the problem ????
Hey, I have a post template and a specific area I’d like to show the map for each post.
What code do I use within my post template to show / place the map? I’ve tried the code on this page but nothing shows.
Thanks!
DW.
If you download the development version you should be able to use the following function. You will need to set your WP Geo settings to show map manually rather than at the top or bottom of posts:
<?php wpgeo_post_map(); ?>Is it possible to configure this so that private posts will appear on the mashup page (perhaps if the mashup page is also set to private)?
Hi.
great Plugin, realy love it – thanks for sharing!
I have a problem though with my mobile version. I don’t load any Plugin on that mobile theme. Is there a hook to load only the scripts I need for the WP Geo Plugin manually?
This would be great!
I don’t think that there is a hook to do that at the moment.
I’m not sure that the version of Google Maps that WP Geo currently uses works well on mobile devices anyway – at some point it needs upgrading to the latest version but it will involve a fairly major rewrite of a lot of the functionality.
Hey Ben,
thanks for your reply. I now load all Plugin-Stuff on single sites. Can’t wait for your update!
Great Plugin anyway, thanks again!
Hi
1st of all : great plugin. Easy to manage and efficient.
Is there a way to use itineraries like in Google Map ?
For example the post is the destination point and the user enters his location to get the road to it ?
Regards
Sorry, that functionality is not currently in WP Geo.
Hey there, great stuff this! Is there an option for user registrations within wordpress to add their location with this plugin?
No, there is currently not an option to do this.
Hi!
I tried today the WP Geo plugin and like it very much
Although I have a problem, can see the marker in the admin side but not on the front map (?) I “Googled” and found this page which talks about the same problem I have right now.
I currently use WordPress v3.2.1 and WP-Geo v3.2.6.1.
I did quite a few tests including:
1 – Deactivating and reactivating WP-Geo
2 – Disabling ALL plugins except WP-Geo…
3 – Trying the “Show Post Map” at top/bottom of post and manually with [wp_geo_map] code…
4 – Checking via FTP the /wp-content/uploads/wp-geo/markers folder and markers are indeed there…
5 – Tried default marker then forced with small marker…
During all these tests I checked my page in Firefox and Chrome at the same time but unfortunately results were similar and still could not see the marker.
The map is showing the right place and is even centered but no marker is showing…
Any idea ?
THANK YOU for your help and concern!
Roger
Hello again,
I just suddenly had a light
I am right now on a temporary address (URL) given by my hosting company (BlueHost) and I think there is a Robots.txt activated by them that could disturb the Google process…
So I will try to switch soon to my proper URL/domain name and maybe it will solve the problem. Anyway whatever happens I will get back here
Cheers!
Roger
I switched today from my temporary domain name to the “official” one but unfortunately I still do not see the marker (http://tinyurl.com/68lsjab)
Cannot think of what could cause the problem (?) Thanks for any help!
Roger
For some reason your page is not loading “/wp-content/plugins/wp-geo/js/wp-geo.js”.
Not sure why though?
As Google is planing to charge users with more than 25.000 views/day: do you plan to integrate other map providers like OSM (openstreetmap) into the plugin? at webtermine.at we have been using your plugin since our launch and we wouldnt want to loose all Markers due to a switch to an OSM wordpress plugin as we are generally very satisfied with the features of your plugin.
While transitioning WP Geo to use version 3 of the Google Maps API I am planning to make it more pluggable so you could integrate it with other Map Providers. At this point I am not planning to build those integrations but it would be possible to do.
Hi Ben,
It allows you to pin, organize & show your favorite places through OpenStreetMap/WMTS, Google/KML, GeoJSON or Augmented-Reality browsers – for details please see http://www.mapsmarker.com
the feature I requested is now available within my own plugin Leaflet Maps Marker, which I released recently
Kind regards,
Robert
Hi Ben,
I want to show markers on my map which are not related to a post. I figured I could do this using private posts – however by default these are excluded from the WPGeo map. Can you point me to the place in the code where this filter is made? I’ve been searching everywhere!
Thanks for the plugin, it’s just what I needed!
Adam
Adam, using private posts for this is probably a bit of a hack. Maybe you could create a custom post type that is just for markers, separate from posts.
http://codex.wordpress.org/Function_Reference/register_post_type
Are you then trying to show them on a big map?
Yes, it’s a hack!
You’re idea sounds neater, thanks.
And yes, I want them to display on the big map. The big map should plot my route using the locations from the union of my “real” posts and my new custom post type (which won’t be visible as posts in my blog).
I just tried it out (using a plugin called “GD Custom Posts And Taxonomies Tools” to create the custom post type) and it works a treat.
Thanks!
Adam,
Great, glad that works for you.
Is there any way to also auto generate markers for comments?
Auto generate based on what?
Hi Ben,
I read on the features that there is the possibility to manage georss but I don’t find the instruction/documentation on how to do it.
Is there a way to include gpx or kml in the global map?
